The top of the panel features a soft wave to ensure the outline of the insert doesn’t show through on the outside.
Small cut-outs act like flexible perforations, guiding where the fabric naturally wants to fold. These slits help create a crisper fold so your pant leg lays flatter—inside and out.
Each snap row is marked with length indicators —alternating right-side up and upside down —so you can always find your perfect fit, no matter your angle.
A “3"” label means that when both snaps marked 3" are connected, your pants shorten by 3 inches. Some snaps are shared across multiple adjustments — like 1" & 2" or 2" & 5" — making the system more efficient without adding bulk.

the mechanics behind shorties
For long-term wear, we recommend ironing the fold for an even sharper finish.
The snaps are metal and may become hot during ironing. Allow them to cool completely before touching or wearing the pants.

Adjustments can be made in one-inch increments, offering multiple length options. However, the total range of adjustability depends on the design choices of each brand. For example, some brands may offer adjustments from 1" to 6" in one-inch increments, while others may choose specific lengths like 2" or 4" only. Additionally, the 1" take-up works best with the blind hem method. We aim to provide as much flexibility as possible while maintaining a polished look.
That’s the beauty of the snap hem system—it works perfectly for both! You can make quick adjustments when needed, like shortening your pants when commuting to work in sneakers and then lengthening the seam after putting on heels at the office. For a more permanent look, we recommend ironing the folds to create a seamless finish. Just make sure to let the snaps cool before wearing your jeans to prevent accidental burns.
The snap hem system is designed to be integrated during the manufacturing process, which requires the same specialized equipment used in denim production to properly attach the insert. To ensure the highest quality and durability, we work directly with brands who have the necessary production capabilities. This approach helps maintain the premium look and functionality that Length Wise is known for.
Currently, the snap hem system has been tested and perfected for jeans. Additionally, since many non-denim pants can be styled with traditional blind hems, the unique benefit of preserving the original hemline may not be as relevant. We are continually exploring new applications, so stay tuned for updates.
It depends on how you choose to style it. If you want to keep the original hem completely hidden, you can connect the snaps without folding the fabric over, similar to a blind hem. This is perfect for quick adjustments, like you might need on a rainy day when the ground is wet. For a more polished look, you can flip the fold down to the hemline, preserving the original hem detail while achieving the perfect length.
Shorties are designed to stay secure throughout the day. Once fastened, the snaps stay firmly in place, even with daily movement. To further validate durability and performance, we are aligning our testing protocols with industry standards, including ASTM D7142-05 and ASTM D2724-19. Whether you’re running errands or dancing the night away, the snaps are built to stay put.
